About the Zine

#Blkgrlswurld is an award-winning indie publishing house based in New York City since 2014. Featuring a print zine, podcast, music festival, irl community, and more, #Blkgrlswurld is operated by Christina Long, MFA (SAIC 2012), and her sibling Courtney Long. The press celebrates and documents Black Womxn & Womxn of Color who participate in heavy music genres like Metalcore, Hardcore, Punk and Black Metal. Interviewing bands, reviewing music and vending at zine fairs allow #Blkgrlswurld ZINE to introduce readers to new music and the diversity within music scenes.

Zines and artists’ books published by #Blkgrlswurld Press can be found in libraries at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art PS1, The Whitney Museum, The Schomburg Center for Research On Black Culture, The Barnard Zine Library, Wasted Ink Zine Distro, and many more.

About the Moderator

Youth Talkz is a contemporary youth-led and produced live broadcast originated by Mr. Marshall Isaiah Callery. Callery began Youth Talkz in 2022 and is the host of the program, which airs monthly on Instagram Live. In addition to hosting, Callery films, self-edits, and produces the finished video as well as secures the guest for each episode.

His purpose is intentional. The talk show targets youth between the ages of 14–30 years old. The broad range captures an audience that is often ignored by many youth programs that limit participation to young people below the age of 18. This group, those over 18 years old, often are still looking to define themselves and also understand which life options are best for their future. Youth Talkz fills this gap by interviewing a wide variety of guests such as entrepreneurs, creatives, actors, and community leaders of all ages and nationalities, thereby giving the audience access to multiple career options for consideration. Furthermore, the interviews introduce the audience to the experience and skills required to be successful in life. Callery believes and professes that “it is important to have down to earth conversations with everyone in the community in order to learn more, because everyone has a story!”

Callery’s vision is to produce a youth-led talk show before a live studio audience similar to earlier show formats such as Teen Summit, Ellen, or the Oprah talk show.
