About the Event

Join the MCA for a three-day sculpture workshop, open to those age 14 to 19 regardless of experience level, and explore themes from the exhibition Nick Cave: Forothermore—an ode to those who, whether due to racism, homophobia, or other forms of bigotry, live their lives as the “other,” and a celebration of the way art, music, fashion, and performance can help us envision a more just future.

Through the workshop teens have an opportunity to connect with one another while exploring Nick Cave’s exhibition in detail and creating their own sculptures rooted in the exploration of identity, with guidance from sculptor and MCA Teacher Institute alum Kat Alice Tae. Over the course of the workshop participants will also create a zine showcasing their experience with Cave’s work, as well as their own explorations of self through sculpture. The zine will be distributed throughout the museum for the duration of Nick Cave: Forothermore.

Teens selected for the workshop are provided snacks and a transportation stipend if needed. All materials for sculpture creation is provided by the MCA through the Creative Chicago Reuse Exchange.
