About the Event
Summer Tuesdays come alive on the MCA terrace with free concerts highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned music community. Enjoy live music while relaxing on the lawn with your own picnic, or savor snacks and drinks available for purchase. Then head inside to catch the MCA’s summer exhibitions—we’re open late on Tuesdays and free for Illinois residents.
This week, Kouri Hall takes the stage with a genre-blending performance. The duo, Chad Kouri and Andy Hall, layers jazz, rock, folk, house, and ambient influences into fluid, spontaneous compositions using synths, percussion, saxophone, and field recordings. Their dynamic sound celebrates improvisation, experimentation, and joy.
About the Artists
Kouri Hall is the musical collaboration between multi-instrumentalists and visual artists Chad Kouri and Andy Hall. The duo crafts a diverse array of sounds, blending influences from jazz, rock, folk, house, ambient music, and school band traditions. Using a wide range of instruments, they seamlessly move between groove, glimmer, and grand sonic declarations. Their dynamic 60-plus-minute sets, uninterrupted and ever evolving, reflect a deep connection to Chicago’s rich history of improvised music and the avant-garde. Through a systematic yet flexible approach, Kouri Hall’s music celebrates play, introspection, resistance, exuberance, and joy. Their debut album (Kouri Hall, 2023) is available on all streaming platforms, and their music has been featured on radio broadcasts worldwide, including NPR, WFMU, Radio alHara, and more.
