About the Event
Summer Tuesdays come alive on the MCA terrace with free concerts highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned music community. Enjoy live music while relaxing on the lawn with your own picnic, or savor snacks and drinks available for purchase. Then head inside to catch the MCA’s summer exhibitions—we’re open late on Tuesdays and free for Illinois residents. For the month of July, Tuesdays on the Terrace celebrates the MCA’s major exhibition Dancing the Revolution: From Dancehall to Reggaetón. Join us all month long for standout performances highlighting music of the Caribbean.
This week, Chicago-based Afro-Puerto Rican performance ensembles from La Escuelita Bombera de Corazón, Bomberxs D’Cora and BomPleneras, take the stage in a celebration of rhythm, tradition, and community. Rooted in the living traditions of Bomba and Plena, both ensembles are dedicated to preserving and evolving these cultural expressions through drum, song, and dance. Each group performs a one-hour set—bringing the energy, spirit, and sounds of Puerto Rico into the present moment.
About the Artist
La Escuelita Bombera de Corazón est 2009 by Ivelisse Diaz, is a Chicago-based Afro-Puerto Rican cultural arts and music education organization dedicated to the preservation, education, and evolution of Bomba and Plena through intergenerational community practice.
