About the Event

Summer Tuesdays come alive on the MCA terrace with free concerts highlighting artists from Chicago’s internationally renowned music community. Enjoy live music while relaxing on the lawn with your own picnic, or savor snacks and drinks available for purchase. Then head inside to catch the MCA’s summer exhibitions—we’re open late on Tuesdays and free for Illinois residents.

This Tuesday, the MCA is thrilled to present Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty, a revolving all-women collective of multi-instrumentalist artists who explore the outer fringes of jazz and beyond.

About the Artist

Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty (named by artist/musician Lonnie Holley) are a revolving collective and network of Great Black Women Composers.

The group is by clarinetist/pianist/vocalist Angel Bat Dawid and includes multi-sensory artist, pianist, and vocalist Sophiyah E. (Detroit), vocalist/saxophonist Monique Golding, trumpeter/vocalist Tramaine Parker, and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Eva Supreme.

Emerging from the Great Black music traditions of Chicago and Detroit, this group comes together with a myriad of musical backgrounds, textures, and sounds relying heavily on spontaneous compositions and improvisation. This ensemble has performed for Elastic Arts 3rd Annual Benefit Concert, Kauffman Center of the Performing Arts Virtual Ecstatic JAZZCITY 2021: Women of Chicago JazzMusic, and has opened for the Sun Ra Arkestra at Central Park Summer Stage 2021 and most recently the Blue Banlieues Festival in Paris in April 2024.
