About the Event

Designed and led by Chicago artists, Family Day is a monthly program at the MCA for all families and youth. Enjoy FREE admission while taking part in workshops, open studio sessions, gallery tours, and performances.

For this Family Day, attendees are invited to engage in programs and activities focused on performance, movement, poetry, and storytelling.

Artist-Led Performances

 

Segundo Ruiz Bomba Ensemble

11 am–1 pm
Edlis Neeson Theater

Bomba is the oldest musical genre of Puerto Rico and an expression of Caribbean and African ancestry through music. Join the Segundo Ruiz Collective for a Bomba performance that includes a mentor from Puerto Rico, teaching artists from Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center, and graduates from Segundo Ruiz’s youth programs.

 

Drag Story Hour

1–3 pm
The Commons

Join Drag Story Hour for story performances and dance breaks in Spanish and English.

  • 1–2 pm Ms. America Powers (Spanish)
  • 2–3 pm Mrs. Yuka Layme (English with American Sign Language interpreter)

Artist-Led Activities

 

A Magic Carpet 

11 am–3 pm
Atrium

Using fabric, bells, beads, flowers and more, contribute to an ever-growing rug inspired by art in the exhibition Forecast Form.

 

 

 

Map it!

11 am–3 pm
4th Floor Lobby

Play a game of mapping. Explore multiple geographies and find the importance of places and the connections between them.
